We spent over a week in Morocco in May, and photographed a not so traditional destination wedding of these two lovely people. We also had time to travel around and visited Essaouira on the coast, Marrakech and then drove through the Atlas mountains to Ouarzazate and Tinghir.
I’ll let the images show you this diverse and surprisingly colourful country, but some of the experiences and memories that stand out for me were:
- a friendly guy on a moped leading us to the airport when we were lost in the middle of chaos in Marrakech
- a waiter offering to go to the shops and buy us some bread and coffee when we just happend to be in their carpark hijacking wifi
- Michael accidentally destroying half of a fruit and veg stall, when he was trying to pick one apple, thank goodness the owner was very understanding
- walking into the middle of the craziest market ever at a busy hour with the couple after their wedding, terrified at first only to be met with great reactions from everyone around
- driving through the Atlas mountains, and seeing a lorry on its side at the highest point
- spending a day in a community centre in a berber village (more about that later)
- been sold pretty much everything at a food stall one night when I hesitated and looked hungry, and I sort of appreciate not eating a nice looking pastry that looked like it had cinnamon on top as we later found out it was pigeon pastry (you don’t see many pigeons in Marrakech)
- spending time with new friends, cooking, drinking wine and chatting travel
